My project explores notions of prejudice and stereotyping that happen between different nationalities. Having been born in West Germany, crossed to East Germany, then lived in England, I was interested in cross-cultural thinking and how feelings of nationalism compare to feelings of being European for the younger, post-war generation

I have created a multilayered book that features different design techniques from collage

and hand drawn imagery and type printed on various kinds of paper with different

grains and attributes. Inside the book are two perforated postcards and a

‘tamagotchi’ fold out. It has been bound as a single sheet bind and is structured in

three chapters. It has an appendix that explains certain german words and gives historical

background together with a number of posters that would be featured within

an exhibition.
